Assistantship to Olivier Grossetête
During the 2008 edition of the “C’est Sud” festival, I was a volunteer assistant to French artist Olivier Grossetête, aiding him in organising one of his performance installations.
One of Olivier Grossetête’s works consists in constructing full scale replicas of edifices with paperboard boxes. In his projects, he invites passers by to join him.

Our job was to show people how to build up the structure and to assist Olivier Grossetête in coordinating the construction.
It was interesting to see how a form of organisation could emerge from such chaotic interaction among various different people : the participants took initiatives and assigned each other roles, functioning like a society. Each participant had a specific function, one which was not entirely determined by the building rules. The operation showed no signs of social or racial prejudice.
