MormyroPEG
MormyroPEG - 2008 - is a conceptual image file format for mormyrus (elephantfish). Thanks to a device called Mormyrophone, developed by Christian Graff, it is possible to pick-up the electrical activity of the fish and to translate it into a sequence of bytes. The data collected is used to fill an empty JPEG file. The file is no longer a simple JPEG, it becomes a MormyroPEG.

Mormyrus use their electrical signals to perceive their environments (shape, presence of predators) and to communicate with each other. This works like a sonar, except that the sonar is not used for communication.
JPEG stands for Joint Photographic Experts Group and is a digital image format. MPEG is an acronym for Moving Picture Experts Group and is a digital video format. Both are standards in the digital world.
